What is our goal?
What is Wood Tennis Club trying to achieve?

Some may ask, what is our goal, what is Wood Tennis Club trying to achieve?
Here’s one way of describing it…
Imagine a local tennis club, somewhere in the world, with 10 or 12 courts, perhaps grass (like the club pictured below), perhaps another surface. All the courts are in use and on one or two, all the players are using wooden rackets. We call this wood-versus-wood tennis “Wood Tennis”.
The wood racket courts could be recreational play or competitive play.
The rackets may be vintage, or they may be much newer. If they are newer, traditional tennis rackets, they will be our Grays of Cambridge rackets.
We have been making them again since 2019.
At this club there is a mix of mainly standard modern rackets, and a few wood rackets. The players using wood are playing in a different style, and everyone is aware of the history.
If you walk behind one of these courts you’ll hear a different sound too, for the sound of a wood racket striking the ball is very distinctive.
At this club it’s a blend of the modern and the old re-born, in a rich mix that adds to and enhances the sport.
That’s one way of describing what we’re trying to achieve!
